Graduate application process

All graduate applications are made on-line via this website. As you will see, the application form consists of a number of competency based questions, and requests some personal and academic information.

Applications for September 2008 close on 16 November 2007.

1st round interview

If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to a first round interview at our London office, between November and December 2007. This lasts about two and a half hours and consists of:

  • An interview with a line manager and a Human Resources representative
  • An ability test.

2nd round Selection Centre

Selection Centres are held in December 2007. They last all day and consist of:

  • An interview with a senior member of your business area
  • An individual case study exercise
  • A group exercise
  • An informal lunch
  • An opportunity to meet current graduates.

Offers

Shortly after the Selection Centre, offers will be made to successful candidates for the programme commencing in September 2008.

Feedback on performance during our recruitment process is available to graduates after the Selection Centre. We want this to be a useful and rewarding experience, irrespective of whether you end up working with us.

Quotes

Rather than hearing from us about how graduate applicants found our recruitment process and their views of the Bank and the people they met, below are some impressions from last year’s graduate candidates.

“I have to say I found the assessment centre enjoyable. I think there are the right amount of particular events and everything was obviously well planned.”
“Fantastic people, friendliest environment I’ve ever attended. Constructive and unique selection process.”
“Great bunch of people and I hope I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to work here.”
“Top class people and facilities. I learnt a lot on the selection rounds. Thanks.”
“Excellent. It has raised my interest in the firm. Excellent culture!”
“Very positive. Everyone was friendly and informative.”
“My experience today has reinforced my impressions of WestLB. Coming from an engineering background, theory is rarely surpassed in practice. Today practice, in that I mean meeting the people here, has surpassed my theory, i.e. what I have been told prior to today.”
